I have been at this for one week now and have lost 5 lbs already! Woo Hoo!! I am already noticing more energy and better moods. So far I haven’t had much of a problem sticking to a healthy diet (except that one day when I had ½ a cupcake and apple pie with ice cream). There have been times when I wanted to eat unhealthy but in those times I think of this…
Speaking of eating…this is what I had today
Breakfast: Coffee, water and Jimmy Dean D-Lights sandwich.
Snack: Apple, Nature Valley granola thin and water
Lunch: Salad with chicken, tomatoes, crushed rice chips, and yogurt ranch
Snack: Uhhh, I can’t remember and coffee.
Dinner: Ham and egg sandwich on whole wheat with laughing cow cheese spread.
Tip of the day: To save on calories from sugar and cream in coffee try this….add cinnamon and a packet of Stevia (found in the vitamin aisle) to your coffee grounds. It tastes sweet and flavored with no extra calories!
Today I went to the gym with my neighbor Mary and did a work out that she got from her old trainer. We started out with a 20 minute warm up on the treadmill. We did crazy stuff like walking on our toes and heels to stretch. Then we just walked at a moderate pace for 15 minutes. Then Mary said we had to go to the advanced training room for the rest and in my head I heard the record scratch and was like WOAH! That sounded way to hard for me. But, I sucked it up and went on in. We did three sets of 15 pull ups, turn out push ups, wall squats with a 25lb weight, lunges with a 7.5 weight, deltoid dips, and bicep curls with 10lb weights. Then we used a foam roller to stretch our muscles. It was a really hard work out and I am mad at Mary for making me do it (just kidding). We started out with the pull ups and due to my total lack of upper body strength I wrapped a huge rubber band thing around the pull up bar. Then I pulled up to the bar and put my feet in the rubber band and it helped me be able to pull myself up. That part was really kind of fun. All the other moves pretty much sucked and I wasn’t able to finish all the sets on some but the point is I did them and I felt good about myself when I left. I was sort of encouraged because I saw room for improvement. When it got tough and I had to stop I just imagined how good it will feel when I get to the point that I don’t have to stop. That’s when I will know that my hard work is paying off.

Ok, today is a weird day and I will have these days 6 days per month. The reason is because I work nights (7P-7A). So my first meal of today was at midnight when I ate at work.
12:00am: Amy’s Light and Lean bean and cheese enchilada and an ever so small slice of pumpkin cheesecake and coffee…sigh…with 12 sugar packets…it was a big cup. I never claimed to be perfect you know. Gosh!
Breakfast: Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal with sliced banana and water
Lunch: I was sleeping
Snack: Pistachios and water
Dinner: Rotisserie chicken, rice (it was Rice A Roni chicken flavor and not tops as far a nutrition but definitely tops as far as taste. Had it in my cabinet and needed to get rid of it. Plus, it’s Todd’s [my man] favorite), and steamed broccoli and cauliflower.
Snack: Yoplait Greek cherry pomegranate yogurt with a bit of Kashi cereal. It was fairly delicious!
At 3:30 in the am I was feeling miserably tired at work. I only had one patient who was sleeping. So…I…. decided to…. workout! I did a 4-minute work out from Pinterest and it was just what I needed. It got my blood flowing and woke me up real nice. After googling what a squat thrust was I pulled off my lab coat and got to it. I went to an empty room, cranked up the workout channel on Pandora, and busted it out. It was not my best form as a result of my crocs but it was definitely better than sitting around feeling like poop. I read some good advice recently and it was this….Instead of thinking about how much you don’t want to exercise, think about how good you will feel when your finished. True that! Here is the workout…
Breakfast: Jimmy Dean D-Lights breakfast sandwich with coffee and water
These are pretty delicious, fast, and easy! I recommend putting them in the fridge instead of the freezer. Then you just have to wrap them in a paper towel and pop them in the microwave for 50 seconds. D-Lights=D-Lish!
If your feeling energetic I hear you can make and freeze your own.
Snack: Carrots with Yogurt Ranch and a handful of pistachios.
I recommend getting the pistachios that are still in the shell. That way it takes you longer to eat them so you eat less.
Lunch: Half of a PB and honey sandwich and water.
Snack: Nature Valley granola thin
Dinner: Chick Fil A chargrilled chicken salad. I skipped the tortilla strips and used light Italian dressing. Drank water.
Went to Zumba again. Great news, I was NOT the most uncoordinated in class today. Made me feel sassy! I think my hips may have finally communicated with my feet to move in sync. My arms still haven’t quite gotten the memo though. In other news, I came up with a new invention that has nothing to do with getting healthy. When I get it together I will show you. It is something for babies!
Breakfast: Orange and Special K breakfast bar with coffee and water.
Snack: Small handful of pistachios
Lunch: 2 slices of cheese pizza and water
Snack: Half of a whole wheat English muffin with a little peanut butter and honey
Dinner: 2 slices of cheese pizza and water.
I had lots of leftover pizza from the youth meeting I went to last night. I couldn’t let it go to waste.
Hip Hip Hooray I exercised today! I went to Zumba with Mary and had fun as always. The instructor was extra peppy today and there was an advance Zumba-er in front of me. Let me just tell you that I am pretty peppy in general and usually have nothing against it but, don’t try to make me smile and say YEAH! while I am working out. I will smile and say YEAH! when it’s over and that will be all. And as for the advanced Zumba-er in front of me…all I have to say is…stop it! Your extra awesome moves distract me and make me confused about the sub par move I am trying to squeak out over here.
So I understand my eating habits haven’t been great but that is going to change this week. I went to the grocery store today and if it wasn’t healthy I didn’t buy it. I am trying to “eat clean” so I scoured Neighborhood Market for fresh foods and foods that have little to no processing. Things like fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats, whole grains, and other stuff like that. I usually have a menu in mind for the week and this week I do not. I am just going to see what I can come up with from all the healthy goodness I have stocked in my kitchen. Check out what I eat for the next 7 days to see how I do. I’d be happy to share what I bought if anyone is interested
